The Short Reads Weekend Reading List for Busy People!

'Beware the barrenness of a busy life' said Socrates.
And we say, he couldn't have been more right!
We also say books are the perfect solution to keep this barrenness at bay.
But you'll say, reading is a leisure activity, and in our hectic schedule who has the time!
True. In today's world where we have an abundance of almost everything around us, one of the things that is available in lesser and lesser quantities day by day is Time.
So how do we then, find the time to read in our busy schedule?

Well, we bring you the answer!

Presenting the weekend list of short reads that, depending on reading speed, busybodies can read in a matter of few hours or over the weekend!

1) Nine Stories by J. D. Salinger
Genre: Short Stories, General Fiction

One of the best options of short reads are short stories. And if they are by a fiction writer as revered as J. D. Salinger, there can be nothing better! The first on our list this week is Nine Stories - a collection of philosophical short stories that appeal to thoughtful readers. A Perfect Day for Bananafish, Pretty Mouth and Green My Eyes and For Esme - with Love and Squalor are some of the amazing stories in this book to watch out for. Definitely, worth an afternoon spent well!

2) Body in the Library by Agatha Christie

Genre: Crime Fiction, Mystery

Next on our list is one of the gems from Christie's mystery treasure chest! The body of a young blond woman is found in a Colonel's library. No one seems to know who she is and how she ended up where she did. Enter Jane Marple - one of the finest of Christie's detectives - and the game begins! Caught your interest yet? Go ahead, this is a surefire hit in the short read as well as the fast read section, because this is a book you won't be able to put down till you find the murderer!

3) Can You Keep A Secret? by Sophie Kinsella

Genre: Humour, General Fiction, Drama

A few little secrets are fine. It's the big ones you have to watch out for! Well, everybody has secrets; but how many dare to share them with a stranger on a plane believing that you would never see the stranger again? And what would happen if you did see the stranger again; only to find out that the said stranger is none other than the CEO of your company? Oops! The Shopaholic series has made Kinsella a household name; but Can you Keep a Secret? is one of her standalone novels and take our word, it definitely stands on its own.

4) The Mute Anklet by Radhika Nathan

Genre: Historical Fiction, Drama, Romance

After philosophy, mystery and humour, our next pick is a historical fiction. Set in 1970's India, during the Anglo-Mysore War, The Mute Anklet is the story of Uma Brooke - an Englishman's daughter, raised by the Maharaja of Madurai. If this is surprising, the plot thickens even more, when the Maharaja insists that she marry Captain Ashton Trevelyan, of the British Army! One the one hand, Uma doesn't wish to hurt the feelings of her gentle guardian, but on the other hand, she cannot even dream of the idea of spending her life with a Brit! We think you will definitely want to read this delightful historical drama in one sitting!

5) The Chairman by Stephen Frey

Genre: General Fiction, Thriller

And finally, to end our list with a bang, we bring you the dark side of Wall Street! Fast-paced and a great read all the way, The Chairman is the first book featuring Christian Gillette, a hero readers have come to love in Frey's later books. The Chairman is an arresting story with a clever plot and and a young hot-shot whose aim is to make his company's private equity fund a resounding success; and who is ready to stop at nothing, not even an attempt on his life!

Which brings us to the end of this week's reads that are short enough for you to reconnect with the reader in you, despite your busy schedule.

Did your favourite make the list? We would love to know. Until then,

Happy Reading!
